Wreaking Havoc: Ram Introduces New Trim for TRX

Ever the brand to produce the most in-yer-face variants of vehicles that already register on the Richter Scale of Aggression, Ram is amping up its 700 horsepower pickup truck by introducing the 2023 Ram 1500 TRX Havoc Edition.

It’s yellow. Did you notice?

Ram is promising the Havoc will provide a “unique combination of technology, graphics, performance, and exterior appearance straight from the factory”. This sounds great, though we’re left to idly wonder if this is simply a TRX dipped in a pot of screaming yellow paint with a few extra stickers and some new trim pieces added to the interior.

Starting with a TRX loaded up avec the Level 2 Equipment Group (Harman Kardon sound system, heads-up display, rear heated seats, and surround view camera gear, et al), Ram goes ahead and slathers on a unique Baja Yellow exterior color, applies a graphics package, then installs 18-inch all-black beadlock-capable wheels. Inside, the TRX Havoc Edition includes Prowler Yellow accent stitching (hey; is that a callback to the OG Prowler?), an embroidered TRX log on its seat backs, unique carbon fiber trim accents, jazzy flat–bottom steering wheel, plus a center console badge which is specific to the truck.

Vague mentions were made to this thing’s most important feature – its powertrain – by way of simply saying the truck’s “high-performance 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 engine [delivers] top output for extended driving sessions without degradation in performance.” That sure sounds like a swipe at outsized electric pickup trucks like the Hummer EV, eh? Absent specifics about horsepower and torque, we will go with the stock TRX numbers of 702 horses and 650 lb.-ft of torque. These are numbers at which no one should sneeze but perhaps Ram is feeling heat from 1,000 horsepower EVs and the new 700-horse Raptor R; this would explain the lack of concrete numbers at this time (so would a surprise bump in output that Ram is not eager to divulge so far ahead of this truck’s official debut).

Price? Try $106,445 including destination. This is right on top of a Raptor R and only a couple of thousand bucks adrift of a loaded TRX painted any color other than yellow (we’ll take Hydro Blue, by the way).

New 2023 Ram 1500 TRX Havoc Edition models, available in unspecified limited quantities, go on sale early in the first quarter of 2023.
