The eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette remains hard to get almost three years after its introduction, and it appears hopeful buyers may have a little longer to wait for their new sports car. Automotive News reported that General Motors is pausing production at the Bowling Green, Kentucky facility that builds the Corvette due to a temporary parts shortage.
Production is scheduled to resume on February 27, and company executives said the decision is unrelated to the massive chip shortages that have plagued the industry over the last year and change.
“Our supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to mitigate any further impact on production to meet the strong demand for our products,” a spokesperson told Automotive News.
Regardless of the cause, the production pause is terrible news for Corvette buyers and General Motors. The Bowling Green plant employs 1,300 people and builds the Corvette Stingray and Z06, both of which already had more than a year-long waiting list in some cases. Depending on how allocations play out, some dealers expect a three- to four-year wait for a new Z06, so any further delays will not be met with enthusiasm.
