We’ve known it was coming for a while, and now Hyundai has started the teasers. Though its recent video starts with gas engine noises and footage of the i20 rally car, Hyundai’s new teaser film is meant to showcase a silent electric vehicle, the upcoming Ioniq 5 N. It looks like the standard EV, but the N will bring performance and styling upgrades, making it a completely different animal.
Since the Ioniq 5 shares most of its underlying engineering with the Kia EV6, we can take some guesses at what’s going on under the camouflage. We’ll likely see a power output close to the 577 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque that the EV6 GT delivers. Hyundai has already confirmed that the vehicle would get all-wheel drive, and there’s a possibility of a limited-slip differential to improve performance and grip.
As with other Hyundai N cars, the Ioniq 5’s interior will likely get an overhaul, though the teaser doesn’t give any hints. We could see Alcantara seats, blue stitching and accents, and a sporty steering wheel. It’s unclear if the Ioniq 5 N will get the brand’s “N Grin Shift” feature, which enables short power boosts in the gas models.
We’ll learn more about the hot EV in the coming weeks. Hyundai hasn’t detailed specs or pricing information, but the Ioniq 5 N is expected to go on sale by the end of this year. Now, let’s hope the company’s next N release is a production version of the delicious N Vision 74 concept car.
