Oscar Mayer is synonymous with processed meats, especially hot dogs. Even so, the company has to go to great lengths to stay top of mind for consumers, and there’s no better way to do that than with a giant rolling hot dog on America’s highways. The Wienermobile, as it has long been known, spreads the beefy joy wherever it roams, though diehard fans will have a new name to learn going forward.
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will now be known as the Frankmobile, which is disappointing on many levels. While the term is technically correct, it’s rare to hear people call hot dogs “Franks,” and it’s hard to imagine the rolling sausage changing that. Oscar Mayer has six vehicles to rewrap and rename, and the company said its rebranding efforts come as part of its “Keep It Oscar” turnaround campaign.
The name change is unlikely to drive people away from their beloved hot dogs, but the timing of the renaming will drive even more interest in the brand ahead of Memorial Day and the summer grilling season. Keep your eyes peeled for the rebranded Wienermobile, and make sure you look out for other rolling mascots, including the L.L. Bean Bootmobile and the Planters nuts Nutmobile.
