Hyundai’s EVs are some of the most buzzed-about models on sale today, but it appears not everyone is happy with the ownership experience. The Drive recently reported that the automaker’s facing a class-action suit from owners who say their EVs’ charging ports can overheat and prevent the vehicle from getting a full charge.
Some owners reported that the level 2 charging plug and port could overheat when charging at home, causing the system to drastically slow charging or stop it altogether. Once things cool off, the charger begins operating again, but the shutdown can result in an incomplete charge, bad news for an owner rushing out the door to take the kids to school or go to work.
The lawsuit covers the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60. As The Drive noted, Hyundai pushed a software update to fix the issue, but the update instead capped charging rates at an even slower speed than the vehicles’ original safeguards.
