Tesla is Expected to Roll Out a Thoroughly Refreshed Model Y Next Summer

tesla is expected to roll out a thoroughly refreshed model y next summer

Tesla recently began rolling out its refreshed Model 3 sedan in some global markets, and the automaker is now gearing up for an update to its best-selling model. Bloomberg broke the story, which claims that the Model Y is due for a thorough update next year.

The source said that Tesla would begin production of the refreshed Model Y at its Shanghai Gigafactory in mid-2024. Similar to the updated Model 3, the new Y will sport a sharper front end and new headlights, and new wheel designs could be available. We also expect interior updates, but details are scarce at the moment. Like the Model 3 before it, the Y will sport a unique internal codename before its release. The Model 3 was called “Project Highland,” and Tesla chose “Project Juniper” for the Y.

Range and overall efficiency will also get a boost with the overhaul. Tesla gave the Model 3 more than a 10 percent increase in its range estimates, which could push the Model Y’s numbers to 360 miles or more in the Long Range configuration.

We don’t have pricing or any other details on Project Juniper yet, which is par for the course with Tesla. The automaker made a huge deal out of the recent Cybertruck launch, and while the Model Y is a far tamer vehicle, it’s the company’s bread and butter, so it could get more fanfare than expected.
