BMW Adds Manual Transmission Option for 2025 Z4 M40i

bmw adds manual transmission option for 2025 z4 m40i

It’s increasingly difficult to find cars with manual transmissions in the U.S., but occasionally automakers surprise us. My Toyota GR Corolla is a great example of an unexpected treat, but BMW recently announced a much quicker, open-top manual. The 2025 Z4 M40i is getting a manual option for the first time as part of an options package with other performance goodies.

The Z4 M40i “Handschalter” (“hand shift” in German) gets a six-speed manual paired with its 382-horsepower turbocharged inline-six. That output gives the two-seater a 4.2-second 0-60 mph time, and BMW includes several other performance parts in the options package.

M light-alloy wheels are included, with 19-inch rollers in front and 20-inch wheels in the back. The car also gets variable sport steering, M Sport. Brakes, and an M Sport differential. Adaptive suspension comes with all M40i variants, regardless of the transmission. That said, the manual variant gets unique chassis tuning and revised suspension for better handling.

Opting for the manual package also opens the door to exclusive interior leather colors, including cognac/black and black Alcantara. The Frozen Deep Green Metallic paint color is also only available for cars equipped with the package, but it’ll cost an extra $2,950 to get the hue.

We don’t have full pricing details for the new Z4 yet, but the manual package costs $3,500. The 2024 M40i starts at $66,300.
