General Motors announced last week that its military vehicle division, GM Defense, is working with U.S. government to develop the newest version of its tactical truck. This isn’t a big surprise, GM created a whole division to meet the military’s mobility needs.
However, Ford has decided it wants in on the business of developing 600 new tactical trucks. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Blue Oval gang plans to submit three prototypes for the U.S. Department of War to review.
Ford isn’t exactly a newbie when it comes to defense contracts, holding a critical place in the history of World War II building B-2 Bombers at its plant in Ypsilanti as well as creating the original Jeep used for decades.
However, it’s a new time and a new era and feelings run strong about each member of the former Big Three. Each automaker has its pluses and minuses so when it comes to creating a vehicle for our country’s soldiers, who do you want to see building that vehicle: GM or Ford?
